Asteroids have been around for a long time…since the formation of our Sun! When all the dust, gas, rocks, and space debris came together to form our solar system, the leftover pieces that didn’t become planets or moons became asteroids: small, flying boulders that orbit the Sun. Sometimes they crash into planets, but don’t worry; scientists are keeping a careful eye on the asteroids out there and studying the risk of future collisions with Earth.
