A theremin can produce music that is both unique and eerie. Science Interpreter Stephen shows you how it's done in this Spook of Science.
You will find out that Leon Theremin invented the musical instrument known as the theremin, and that Bob Moog has manufactured many theremins. A theremin's two antennae produce an electrical current, which can be disrupted by placing your hands near the antennae. This changes the sound that the theremin produces, and allows the user to play music with their hands. The pitch of a music note is the frequency of the sound wave, and the volume of music is the amplitude of the sound wave.
