Sir Joseph J. Thomson received the Elliott Cresson Medal in 1910 for "distinguished leading and directive work in the advancement of our knowledge of the physical sciences." Thomson authored numerous books and papers dealing with modern electrical theory. The 1907 Nobel Prize was awarded to Thomson for his research work in physics, and he was knighted in 1909 for distinguished achievements in science.
