Position Description:

The Porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness within the Franklin Institute, ensuring public areas, restrooms, and event spaces are clean and presentable.

Position Requirements:

  • Maintain cleanliness of the inside and outside perimeter of the building, including restrooms, offices, exhibit areas, and all outside space
  • Ability to use all equipment necessary to perform jobs, such as ladders, hand trucks, flatbeds, chair carts, table carts, a scissor lift, a genie lift, and all cleaning equipment.
  • Peruse the building frequently to police all areas as needed.
  • Respond to internal walkie-talkie requests and complete tasks.
  • Assist all other trades per requests.
  • Assist with large deliveries and help with distribution throughout the building.
  • Move heavy boxes, crates, and furniture.
  • Setup and breakdown of all meetings and events
  • Complete all job assignments delegated by the Lead Porter
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a porter or in a similar role.
  • Must be able to stand and complete physical labor for shifts of more than 8 hours
  • Must be able to work outside in inclement weather
  • Tasks may require lifting heavy boxes and furniture. 

 

Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Thursday through Saturday, 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, and Sunday through Monday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Must be willing to work a varied schedule and overtime as needed.
