Position Description: 

The Designer works with various departments, executing projects in alignment with the visual identity and brand standards of The Franklin Institute. The designer will coordinate with other departments in the approval process of all assigned projects and is responsible for producing an on-time, on-budget, high-quality product. The designer will work in a fast-paced environment and will be part of a small design team, which is part of the larger Experiences department. Candidate must have the ability to manage multiple projects, have strong organization skills, be extremely attentive to details, and possess strong conceptual abilities (both individually and as part of a team). Strong typography skills and a passion for design are a must.

The Designer will be responsible for:

  • Design and implementation of various mediums (Examples: print/digital advertising, annual reports, large format signage, activity sheets, event collateral etc.)
  • Involvement in all project phases, including estimating, design, production, purchasing, proofing, and archiving.
  • Participation in creative team brainstorming, including messaging and design for all special exhibit marketing campaigns.
  • Develop and produce digital advertising for display ads.
  • Assist in the content management of dynamic digital signage, including the maintenance of messaging templates to ensure accurate information is displayed throughout the museum.
  • Assist in the repair and replacement of graphics in exhibitions as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with museum colleagues and vendor contacts.
     

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design; entry-level candidates with a strong portfolio will be considered; a minimum of 2 years of experience is preferred.
  • Strong portfolio showing a range of print and digital projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of both 2D and 3D graphic design.
  • Expert knowledge of Mac environment and Adobe Creative Cloud – Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, & Acrobat.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Excel/PowerPoint.
  • Experience with motion graphics/After Effects preferred.
  • Copywriting experience a plus.
  • Illustration experience a plus. Strong design skills with an ability to produce effective communication  materials.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills with efficiency in a fast-paced and collaborative environment

 

Status: Full-time,37.5 hours per week. Monday through Friday
