Science After Hours is back! Step into a vibrant world of color and warm up with explosive bursts of science as you explore the museum, galleries, and exhibits, overflowing with activities. In partnership with PHS, prepare to be dazzled and inspired as you experience the wonders of science like never before! Embrace the “Booms & Blooms” theme and show up loud with florals, sparkles, and colors.  

Tickets Include:

  • Evening access to all core exhibits and galleries.  
  • Limited Edition lapel pin created exclusively for the event.  
  • Roof deck access offering spectacular city views and facilitated stargazing (weather permitting).

Featured Programming:

  • Explosive Science from The Franklin Institute: Giant Explosions! Liquid Nitrogen Clouds, Ball Pit Ball explosions, and Hydrogen demos throughout the evening! 
  • Spring Themed Dissections from TFI: Get up close to see the ins and outs of some of your favorite flowers and plants.  
  • Music by DJ XTINA in the Planetarium: Experience a vibrant celebration in an electrifying space where music, movement, and expression unite in a bold celebration of empowerment.  
  • Floral Projections by Visual Artist Richie Brown: Live experimental kaleidoscopic floral-themed projections on the Planetarium Dome  
  • The Wonderful World of Algae with The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University: Have you ever heard of diatoms? Did you know they produce about 30% of the oxygen we breathe daily? Diatoms are microscopic algae important for all aquatic ecosystems but can also be part of harmful algal blooms. Check out The Wonderful World of Algae with Mariana Huley, Phycology Lead at the Academy, and glimpse life underwater.  
  • The (Forensic) Science of Explosions with Rutgers University – Camden, Dept of Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal Justice: It’s the post-blast investigation. Learn how forensic investigators process scenes after an explosion. What does a bomb look like after it goes off and how can it be reconstructed? How does chemistry help investigators determine what kind of explosive was used?

What to Know: 

  • Tickets do not include access to any special exhibition.
  • This is a 21+ event. A valid form of identification will be checked upon entry. 
  • Attendees are allowed small clutch bags only (4.5” x 6.5”). 
  • Doors for the event will open at 7:30 p.m., with programming starting at 8:30 p.m. A complete event schedule will be released closer to the date. 
  • While we encourage everyone to dress up to the theme, there is no formal dress code for Science After Hours; however, please note that full-face masks are not permitted, and shoes, tops, and bottoms are required for entry. 
  • The Franklin Institute does not discriminate based on gender or orientation, race, or religion. Anybody found to harass other guests will be escorted from the event. 

The award-winning PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is the nation's largest, and the world’s longest-running horticultural event and features stunning displays by some of the world’s premier floral and landscape designers. Started in 1829 by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Show introduces diverse and sustainable plant varieties and garden and design concepts. In addition to acres of garden displays, the Flower Show hosts world-renowned competitions in horticulture and artistic floral arranging, gardening presentations and demonstrations, and special events.
