[ Spotlighting | Minutes from ME | Puzzler | Thisday | BioPoint ]
January, 1998
|
Some people say that January and February are long, slow months in the
classroom. That's not true this year, though, thanks to El Niño. The
weather phenomenon is making science the lead story on many daily news
reports. Why not use the real science to teach science? This month's
"Spotlight" features online resources for understanding and teaching
El Niño.
If you have not already heard about El Niño, then you really must take a "Minute from ME" and exercise your sense of hearing. ME is continuing her investigation of the senses, and this month the focus is on hearing. The "BioPoint" students are continuing their investigation of biochemistry. They are documenting the daily life of a cell in cell journals. It's an interesting approach to learning. The "Puzzler" hides two famous quotations in cryptograms this month. Use the clues to begin cracking the code. After all of the holidays in December, you may not be thinking about celebrations. Or, you may want to keep the celebration rolling along! Use "Thisday" to acknowledge the New Year, Martin Luther King Day, Ben Franklin's Birthday, and the Chinese New Year. |
